District Missionary Mother Gracie Morgan
District Missionary Mother Gracie Morgan is a devoted servant of the Lord whose life has been
characterized by unwavering faith, humble leadership, and faithful service in the Church of God in Christ.
A third-generation member of the Church of God in Christ, she has dedicated her life to advancing the
Kingdom of God through ministry, education, mentorship, and compassionate service to others.
Mother Gracie Morgan was born on August 18, 1947, in Charleston, Mississippi, and is the eldest of
thirteen children. At the age of eight, her family relocated to East St. Louis, Illinois, where she completed
her primary and secondary education. She later attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville,
studying Management Information Systems for three and one-half years. Continuing her desire to serve
others, she also completed the necessary training to become a Certified Hospital Chaplain.
Her professional career began as a legal secretary before she faithfully served the East St. Louis School
District for nearly twenty years as a secretary. Following her years in public education, Mother Morgan
and her late husband, Minister Ephraim Allen Morgan, fulfilled a vision by opening a Christian bookstore.
Together they faithfully operated the business for twenty years, ministering to countless individuals
through Christian literature and resources until her retirement in 2015. Following retirement, she relocated
to Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mother Morgan’s spiritual foundation was established early in life by her godly mother and grandmother,
who diligently taught her the principles of holiness and Christian living. Growing up in rural Mississippi,
she attended church faithfully despite the challenges of having a traveling pastor who visited only once
each month.
After moving to East St. Louis, Illinois, she worshiped at Piggott Avenue Church of God in Christ under
the leadership of Elder Willie Cason. During a brief stay in Detroit, Michigan, she attended East Grand
Boulevard Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Elton Lawrence. Upon returning to
Illinois, she united with Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop William
Scott, where she faithfully served for many years. During this time, she served under the spiritual
guidance of the late Mother Thelma Jean Scott and later Mother Roxalana Moore.
While serving at Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ, Mother Morgan acknowledged the call of God
upon her life and was officially licensed as a Missionary in the Church of God in Christ.
Throughout her years of ministry, Mother Morgan has faithfully served at every level of the Church.
Within her local church, she taught Prayer and Bible Band as well as Home and Foreign Mission classes.
She faithfully prepared Holy Communion, assisted in preparing candidates for water baptism, and
invested in the lives of young women through the Young Women’s Christian Council.
Her dedication extended beyond the local church as she became actively involved on the district level.
She served as Assistant Dean of Education, where she assisted in developing curriculum and organizing
educational workshops for district meetings at the direction of the Superintendent.
On the jurisdictional level, Mother Morgan served as Assistant to the Jurisdictional Adjutant Sister. She
coordinated the preparation of Holy Communion for jurisdictional services and assisted with the
preparation of candidates for water baptism. She also served on the cabinet of the Jurisdictional
Supervisor as Assistant President and later President of Ways and Means, serving under both the late
Mother Thelma Jean Scott and Mother Roxalano Moore. Additionally, she was an active member of the
Pastors’, Elders’, Ministers’, Wives’, and Widows’ Council. She also performed other duties as directed by
her Pastor and Jurisdictional Supervisor.
Following her move to Charlotte, North Carolina, Mother Morgan united with New Bethel Church of God in
Christ under the leadership of Bishop Tommie Murphy.
At New Bethel, she continues to serve faithfully as Secretary of the Missionary Circle and as a dedicated
member of the Mothers Board, where she coordinates many of the board’s activities. She also served the
community by preparing meals and donating food through the Women’s Homeless Shelter ministry until
the program concluded. Today, at the direction of her pastor, she and the Church Mother faithfully teach a
weekly class on the Holy Ghost.
On the E.C. Cannon Memorial District, Mother Morgan presently serves as District Missionary continuing
her lifelong commitment to mentoring women and strengthening the work of the Church.
Throughout her years of ministry, Mother Morgan has been recognized for her outstanding leadership,
compassionate service, and commitment to both the Church and the community. Among her many
honors are recognition as an Outstanding Business and Professional Woman by the International District
Missionary Unit of the Church of God in Christ during the Holy Convocation in St. Louis, Missouri, the
Unsung Hero of the Community Award, the Orchids to Role Models Award, and numerous other
recognitions from churches and community organizations throughout the East St. Louis and vicinity area.
Mother Morgan considers one of God’s greatest blessings to be her family. She and her beloved late
husband, Minister Ephraim Allen Morgan, are the proud parents of three daughters and have been richly
blessed with two grandsons, two granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.
After decades of faithful ministry, Mother Gracie Morgan continues to exemplify servant leadership,
Christian integrity, and unwavering devotion to God. Her life stands as a testimony that true greatness is
found in faithful service. Through her quiet strength, wisdom, compassion, and steadfast commitment to
holiness, she has impacted generations and remains an inspiration to all who have the privilege of
knowing her.
Her favorite Scripture is Proverbs 3:5–6:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
