Mother Margaret E. Walker was born and reared in Filbert, West Virginia. She is the tenth of twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Galloway Spicer. She was educated in the Public School System in Mercy County, Princeton, West Virginia. Mother Walker developed a desire for God at the young age of 13 when she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a Tent Revival in August, 1950.

The following week, she joined Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Jacob Gibson. There she enjoyed a life committed to serving which was demonstrated by her active involvement in various ministerial capacities including Licensed Evangelist Missionary, President of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW) and President of the Young Women’s Christian Council (YWCC).

It was at Saints Memorial COGIC that she met Elder George F. Walker and they were joined in Holy Matrimony November 9, 1957. In February of 1958, she became First Lady of Saints Memorial COGIC when Elder Walker was named Pastor of this great church. In 1982, she became a Bishop’s wife when Pastor Walker was elevated to Bishop of the West Virginia Jurisdiction of the Churches of God in Christ.

Bishop and Mother Walker were blessed to have four sons, George Jr., William, Joseph and Jonathan and one daughter, Renae along with over eighty Foster children from 1976 to 1989. They loved and enjoyed one another in marital bliss for 37 years until Bishop Walker was called from labor to reward in January 1994. Through this wonderful union, Mother Walker is the proud grandmother to seventeen, great-grandmother to eight and great-great-grandmother to one.

While enjoying the pleasurable experience of serving, she knew in her heart there was something more God had for her life. Consequently, she sought the Lord and upon hearing His voice, she received and accepted her assignment to move to Charlotte, North Carolina and began serving in Home Health Nursing Care in August 1996. In 2007, she began the care for newborn twins, Alex and Henry Best who has since given their lives to the Lord and to this day remain an intricate part of her life.

In 1997, after an invitation from Dr. Gwendolyn Washington, Mother Walker visited, joined and today serves at New Bethel Church of God in Christ in Charlotte, North Carolina under the leadership of Bishop Tommie A. Murphy where she is licensed as an Evangelist Missionary and serves on the Mother’s Board.

Mother Walker was appointed in September 2022 and now serves as District Missionary Designee of the E. C. Cannon Memorial District. She also serves in a Jurisdictional capacity as President of the Mother’s Board and member of the Executive Advisory Board under the leadership of Mother Harrizene Keyes.

District Missionary Designee Walker has ministered the Word of God in a number of different cities and churches, where the anointing of the Holy Ghost has been present to heal, destroy yokes, and deliver from enemy oppression. She demonstrates what it looks like to live as a Titus 2 woman: a woman of faith who has learned to love her husband and her children, be reverent, godly, modest and wise. In a season where suffering is rampant and discouragement is raging, she seek younger women whom she can train by prayerfully pouring into them the love and wisdom of Christ gleaned from His Word, facilitated by her years of walking in submission to the Holy Ghost!

She readily shares with all who will lend an ear to hear the Word of the Lord that guides her life from 1 Kings 2:3,  “and keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself.”
